Maternal Mental Health and Postpartum Therapy in Arizona

Virtual support for pregnancy, postpartum, and new parenthood with a licensed therapist, available in English and Spanish across Arizona.

What is Maternal Mental Health?

Maternal mental health therapy addresses the emotional and psychological experiences that can arise during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and early parenthood. These include postpartum depression, perinatal anxiety, birth trauma, difficulty adjusting to new parenthood, and relationship strain that often accompanies major life transitions.

Many new and expecting parents experience mood changes, persistent worry, or a sense of disconnection that goes beyond typical stress. These experiences are common, they are not a reflection of how much you love your child, and they respond well to therapeutic support.

At Be Well Therapy Collective, maternal mental health therapy is delivered virtually to clients across Arizona. Sessions are one-on-one, flexible around the realities of new parenthood, and available in both English and Spanish.

Meet Damaris, Your Arizona Therapist

I work from a place of genuine curiosity about what makes each person tick. My approach is rooted in mindfulness and CBT, which means we spend time understanding the thoughts behind the patterns you want to change, then finding tools that actually fit your life. Not journaling if journaling doesn’t work for you. Not affirmations if that feels forced. Instead, we find what makes sense for you specifically, whether that’s a grounding exercise, a meditation at the end of our session, or simply learning to recognize what’s happening beneath the surface before it takes over.

My goal is for you to leave each session with something concrete, and over time, to know yourself well enough that you can work through hard moments on your own too.

Sessions are available in English and Spanish, and I offer a free initial consultation so we can connect before you commit to anything.

What Maternal Mental Health Therapy Can Help With

Damaris works with clients navigating a range of perinatal and postpartum experiences, including:

  • Postpartum depression, anxiety, and mood changes following birth
  • Prenatal stress, worry, or difficulty adjusting to pregnancy
  • Identity shifts and relationship changes in early parenthood

Clients often describe feeling more grounded, more able to identify and respond to their own needs, and more connected to their experience of parenthood as sessions progress.

What To Expect

Step 1: Free Initial Consultation Your first step is a brief consultation where you can share what you are experiencing and ask any questions about the process. Damaris will listen carefully and help you determine whether her approach feels like a good fit before you commit to anything.

Step 2: Ongoing Sessions Sessions are 50 minutes, held virtually via secure video. Together, you and Damaris will identify what is driving the patterns or feelings you want to address, and build tools that hold up in real life, not just in session.

Step 3: Support at Your Pace Damaris works at each client’s pace, with clear therapeutic boundaries that allow space for real processing without pressure to relive difficult experiences. As your circumstances shift, the focus of sessions can shift too.

How Be Well Approaches Maternal Mental Health

Maternal mental health care at Be Well is grounded in two distinct areas of clinical expertise.

Tejal Misra, MSW, LCSW, holds specialized training in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), a focused certification held by a small number of therapists practicing in Arizona. Her training covers the full perinatal spectrum: prenatal anxiety and depression, postpartum mood disorders, birth trauma, and the relational shifts that come with becoming a parent or expanding a family. Tejal leads the clinical model and shapes the approach Be Well brings to every maternal mental health client.

In Arizona, sessions are delivered by Damaris, a licensed therapist who works from a person-centered, mindfulness-based CBT framework. Her approach is built around understanding the thought patterns behind what a client is experiencing, then finding practical tools that actually fit their life. That might mean ending a session with a guided meditation, identifying a grounding exercise that works in a sleep-deprived moment, or simply slowing down to name what is happening beneath the surface. Sessions are available in English and Spanish, and Damaris offers a free initial consultation to every prospective client.

Be Well accepts Aetna and Cigna/Evernorth for maternal mental health sessions in Arizona.

Yes. Research consistently supports telehealth as an effective format for postpartum mood disorders, and many new parents find the flexibility of virtual sessions easier to maintain during an already demanding period. You do not need to leave home or arrange childcare to attend.

There is no threshold you need to cross before it is appropriate to seek support. If you are experiencing persistent low mood, worry that is difficult to manage, difficulty bonding, or simply a feeling that something is not right, those are valid reasons to reach out.
